Call for Paper Proposals: Young Scholars’ Forum in Chinese Studies 2026

The Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS) is thrilled to announce the Young Scholars' Forum in Chinese Studies 2026 (YSF 2026) on the theme "Crisis and Revitalization: Reconfiguring Certainty through Global China".

At the forthcoming 12^th Young Scholars’ Forum in Chinese Studies, we are delighted to announce the theme Crisis and Revitalization: Reconfiguring Certainty through Global China. The Forum looks forward to receiving submissions which, in humanistic synergy, decode the nuances of (uncertainty) in the following fields in the context of global China:

We are delighted to invite submissions for the upcoming graduate symposium, “Margins, Metaphor, and Medium: Subaltern Voices in East Asia,” hosted by the McGill Graduate Students’ Society for East Asian Studies (MGSSEAS), which will take place on April 24, 2026, at McGill University.

This year’s theme seeks to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on how East Asian societies, cultures, histories, and intellectual traditions—often situated at the margins of global academic discourse—are articulated, represented, and transmitted across diverse historical, linguistic, and media contexts. It encourages participants to reconsider margins as dynamic sites of creativity and negotiation, and to explore how “margins,” “metaphor,” and “medium” together offer new frameworks for reimagining East Asian voices within and beyond dominant global academic discourses. We welcome submissions from graduate students across all disciplines and institutions.

We are delighted to invite you to the 9th International Forum on Linguistics and Chinese Education (IFOLCE-9), which will be hosted by City University of Hong Kong, in partnership with The Education University of Hong Kong and Stanford University as co-organizers, from June 26 to 28, 2026.

The theme of IFOLCE-9 is Chinese Linguistics, Chinese Education, and Generative AI, advocating cross-disciplinary and empirically oriented research for the advancement of Chinese-related research and applications in the AI era. The deadline for abstract submission is Sunday, January 18, 2026. More details can be found in the attached first notice (一號通知).

Commemoration and Youth Education Event on Nanjing Massacre 1937

Hong Kong University Graduate Association (HKUGA), together with other renowned institutions in Hong Kong, will hold a special commemoration event “Lest We Forget: Nanjing Massacre 1937” on December 13 at the University of Hong Kong campus, to commemorate victims of the massacre and to express our sincere wish for the preservation of peace. The event explores history, youth empowerment, and peace education.

Highlights:

• Film Screening: Iris Chang: The Rape of Nanking. (Film in English with Chinese subtitles)

• Sharing Session: Dialogue (in Cantonese) featuring Executive Director of ALPHA Education and the WongAvery Asia Pacific Peace Museum (Canada) and past student contributors on how the 80-year legacy of WW2 in Asia still has lasting enlightenment on youth generations.
