粵語流行曲的「生成」： 星港「音樂文化史」的視角
何陳婉珍粵劇研藝中心將於2025年11月22日（星期六）舉辦題為「粵語流行曲的「生成」： 星港「音樂文化史」的視角」的公開講座，由新加坡國立大學中文系榮休教授容世誠教授主講，他將會提出新的角度去了解五十年代粵語流行曲的生成，以及它和廣東音樂在星馬及香港兩地發展的關係。現誠邀 閣下出席，詳情如下：
講座簡介：「粵語流行曲」當時又稱「粵語時代曲」，是五十年代流行於香港和星馬一帶的新興城市曲種。今天追溯「粵語流行曲」的源頭起點，往往具有爭論性，而要探究其生成過程，必須回到戰後新加坡和香港兩地的「娛樂事業」（歌台/遊樂場；舞廳/夜總會）；「唱片工業」（百代公司；和聲歌林公司）；「電台廣播」（馬來亞電台；星港「麗的呼聲」）；「印刷文化」（出版唱本文本）和「電影工業」，方能梳理出比較清晰的歷史脈絡。
講座將從1950年百代唱片公司遷離上海，在新加坡聘請白鳳、白鶯和朱慶祥灌錄第一批 「粵語流行曲」（當時稱「廣東小曲」）說起，結合歷史檔案、口述訪談、報章廣告、照片圖像和唱片實物，敘述一個關於戰後粵樂文化的「雙城故事」。

Generation of Canto-pop: from the Perspective of Music History of Singapore and Hong Kong
You are cordially invited to attend a public seminar organised by Ina Ho Cantonese Opera Research Centre on 22 November 2025 (Saturday). We are honored to have Prof Yung Sai-shing, Emeritus Professor of National University of Singapore as our guest speaker. Prof Yung will present new perspectives on the origins of Cantonese pop music in the 1950s and explore its connections with the development of Cantonese music in both Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
Summary:
Cantonese pop songs, also known as Cantonese popular music, emerged in the 1950s as a vibrant urban genre across Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia. While its exact origins remain debated, understanding its development requires examining several post-war cultural and media industries, including entertainment venues, record labels, radio broadcasting, print culture, and film industry.
The genre's early recordings began with EMI’s relocation from Shanghai to Singapore in 1950, producing the first "Cantonese tunes" with artists like Pak Fung, Pak Ying, and Choo Heng-cheong. Through archival materials, oral histories, and media artifacts, the narrative unfolds as a "tale of two cities"—tracing the intertwined musical cultures of Singapore and Hong Kong during the post-war era.
